Recycle Your Used Boxes

Thank you for wanting to help our environment by getting your used boxes reused! We offer several convenient programs to get boxes from you and back into circulation. We can pay you to drop-off your boxes at our Haight Ashbury location in San Francisco. We can come to you and pick up your boxes. We can setup a regular pickup schedule for businesses where we'll pickup your boxes and even pay you for them. And if you have something else in mind, simply let us know - we are open to your suggestions!

Drop-Off Your Used Boxes and Get Paid

Boxes can be dropped off in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco. We pay $0.10 for every box that meets our requirements. Let Us Pick Up Your Used Boxes

If you are a business and want to setup a regular pickup schedule please see the next section. We are happy to perform one-time pickups for individuals and businesses. There is no minimum number of boxes, but we do charge a $20 fee for a one-time pickup of less than 100 boxes. The pickup fee is reduced by $0.10 for every box that meets our requirements. We may be able to reduce the pickup fee if you are located very close to us or if we are already making a pickup or a drop-off very close to your location provided that you are flexible on the pickup time. Please submit an appointment below and we'll see what we can do.

We do not pay for boxes we pickup until we receive enough boxes to cover the pickup fee. This means that we will start paying $0.10 per box for every accepted box beyond 200.

To summarize:

  • Less than 100 Boxes - You pay $20 - $0.10 x Number of Accepted Used Boxes
  • Between 100 and 200 Boxes - We pickup your boxes for free
  • More than 200 Boxes - We pay $0.10 for every Accepted Used Box beyond 200

Setup a Regular Pickup Schedule

If you regularly have used boxes we can create a custom schedule to effectively pick them up from you. We can perform a regular pickup at no charge for even small businesses and we can pay for boxes as long as monthly volume reaches certain thresholds (even if some specific pickups are small). We are flexible in dealings with businesses looking get their boxes reused. If you have questions or if you have a large quantity of boxes available and none of the above options quite fit your needs please contact our Sales Department with a description of your situation. We are excited about getting your boxes reused and look forward to coming up with a solution that works well for everyone involved.

Requirements - Types of Boxes We Accept

Although we'd like to get as many boxes reused as possible there isn't enough demand for us to use certain boxes at this time. Most people looking for used boxes will be using them for moving, storage, or shipping and we need boxes that will be useful for them. We do hope to be able to accept a larger variety of boxes in the future.

Acceptable Used Box Condition

Used boxes must still be in useable condition. The cardboard should still have much of its original strength, and should not be severely deformed. Small rips and tears are OK provided that the box can be taped back together and still have sufficient strength. Boxes should not have been wet since they lose a great deal of strength. Boxes should not smell or contain any food or hazardous material residue. We generally do not accept boxes from grocery stores for this reason. Boxes must have all sides allowing the box to be completely sealed.

In short, the box must be in such a shape that it can be safely used by someone for moving, storage, or shipping. Tape, labels, markings, etc. are all OK.

Acceptable Used Box Sizes

We primarily need boxes that are 1.5 cubic foot in volume or larger. This translates to boxes that are 16x14x12 or larger. We can accept some boxes as small as 1 cubic foot (12x12x12). There are a number of dimensions that will produce volume of 1 cubic foot or larger and most of them are acceptable. The exceptions would be extremely narrow boxes unless they are large enough to be used for bicycles or mirrors.

Preparation for Drop-off or Pickup

For ease of transport and storage, boxes should be broken up and folded. If at all possible, please only fold boxes along their normal fold lines. Other folds will decrease the strength of the box.

If you strongly prefer not to break up boxes let us know; we may be able to break up your boxes for a small fee.
